Accessibility

Our commitment

This site should work for you no matter how you browse it, keyboard only, screen reader, zoomed in, or with motion turned down. I built it with that in mind and I keep checking it, rather than treating accessibility as a one-time fix.

Standard I'm aiming for

I'm targeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the widely used benchmark for web accessibility. That includes things like keyboard access to every interactive element, visible focus indicators, sufficient color contrast, proper labels on form fields and buttons, and honoring your device's reduced-motion setting.

What that looks like on this site

  • A skip link at the top of every page for keyboard and screen-reader users to jump straight to the main content.
  • Blog posts and other interactive cards open with the keyboard (Tab and Enter or Space), not just a mouse click.
  • The blog post reader is a proper dialog: it announces itself to screen readers, keeps keyboard focus inside while open, closes on Escape, and returns your focus to where you were when you close it.
  • Text colors are checked against their backgrounds for contrast, and animation is scaled back or removed entirely if your system has reduced motion turned on.
  • Forms carry visible labels, required-field cues, and status messages that screen readers pick up automatically.

Known limitations

This is a small, independently run site and I don't have a formal audit team. I've gone through it by hand for keyboard access, screen-reader labeling, and contrast, but I have not run a full third-party accessibility audit. If a photo is missing useful alt text, a color combination is harder to read than it should be, or something breaks with your screen reader, that is a gap I want to know about and close, not a permanent limitation.

Tell me what isn't working

If you run into a barrier anywhere on this site, email me and describe what happened and what device or software you were using. I'll look into it and follow up with you directly.
