2026 was a big one. Alexandria turned 277 and the United States turned 250 (the Semiquincentennial). The city threw its annual birthday celebration down on the waterfront at Oronoco Bay Park, with music, a cannon salute, the birthday cake, and fireworks over the Potomac to close the night.
How It Went
My family and I spent the evening on the waterfront, from around 5:00 PM until the fireworks wrapped up near 10:00 PM. No agenda, just neighbors enjoying a good evening.
Next Time
The city holds this celebration every July. When the next gathering goes on the calendar it will be listed on the events page.
